History of ancient Olympics: Beginning and the End

Olympics started in Greece as a part of worshipping their deity "Siyus".

This religious celebration was conducted every four years. The first one was in 776 BC. It had only one event, 192 meter running named as 'stadiyon'. Korebas was the winner in this event.

The olympics was conducted in a stadium in which 20000 people can be seated. It was a one day program. This kind of one day Olympics was last conducted in 692 BC. And one event olympics was last conducted in 728 BC. Then the events and number of days began to increase.

In 632 BC the olympics was conducted for 5 days.  Olympics continued for almost 4 centuries under the domain of Romans also. But they placed roman deities in the place of Greek deities.

In 391 AD when the roman empire accepted Christianity officially,Theodoshias 1, the then ruler declared olympics as against the religion in 393 AD. And that was the end of ancient olympics.
